Kanye West headlining Good Vibrations and banishing photographers from his midst (well, at least the pit)
My first major music festival in Sydney was Good Vibrations held last weekend. Man, what a day. While I had the opportunity to shoot the Bimbadgen Blues Festival in the Hunter during my final weekend as a Novocastrian, Good Vibes was about ten times bigger. Two major stages plus a few smaller ones, big international headliners (the rather pretentious Kanye “no-photographers-in-the-pits-because-I-can’t-deal-with-my-own-popularity-but-have-a-mega-ego” West and Cypress Hill in the Roots tent) and plenty of Sydney’s finest fluoro+electro loving kiddies made for a massive day.
Highlight of the day for me was catching up with the guys from Melbourne’s Damn Arms (having shot them a few times before) and seeing Thievery Corporation - particularly one of their singers who was absolutely dreamy.

Cypress Hill: I got the jump shot!
My first time shooting the hip hop legends of the 90’s Cypress Hill at a sideshow for the Good Vibrations music festivals as they tour Australia. Was an interesting experience being squished in with about a dozen photographers in a pit that is full with half that amount. You only really have one spot to shoot from - so I was lucky enough to get something moderately worthy at the start.

The Kiwi Brothers + 1 token white guy of Kora hit Sydney Festival
Catching up on the last month of photography. Kiwi band Kora hit Australia to play with the Sydney Festival this year. Performing at Becks Bar, located at the Hyde Park Barracks Museum at the northern end of Hyde Park in the city, I was given an access all areas pass by James Browning (working for Sydney Festival, but also the man behind Niche Productions) and a couple of tickets - shooting the event for InTheMix. While I couldn’t find anyone to enjoy the VIP tickets, I met up with Duncan and his brother Angus who were reviewing the show for InTheMix and give a great wrap up of the evening’s entertainment. The support acts that I got their to shoot were Aloe Blacc and Budspells.
