Shapeshifter @ The Metro, Sydney - 5th September, 2008 (aka I <3 my 16mm lens!) The Kiwi's Drum and Bass band Shapeshifter hit the stage in Sydney to a sell out crowd. They've gotten significantly bigger since I last shot them at the Gaelic Club in Surry Hills. The crowd was more balanced - although that was probably more reflective of the fact that they weren't playing after a set at ParkLife like last year. The Kiwi Brothers + 1 token white guy of Kora hit Sydney Festival Catching up on the last month of photography. Kiwi band Kora hit Australia to play with the Sydney Festival this year. Performing at Becks Bar, located at the Hyde Park Barracks Museum at the northern end of Hyde Park in the city, I was given an access all areas pass by James Browning (working for Sydney Festival, but also the man behind Niche Productions) and a couple of tickets - shooting the event for InTheMix. The crowd awaits the on stage arrival of Gotye during Sounds in the Grounds downstairs at Manning Bar, University of Sydney I was invited by The Dwarf to shoot Sounds in the Grounds at Manning Bar in the grounds of the University of Sydney. The event had a fairly packed line up of Australian artists, with a token New Zealand group in the shape of Salmonella Dub. The Aussies included Gotye, Wolf & Cub, Urthboy, I Heart Hiroshima, Bluejuice, The Basics and The Tongue. I'd had the opportunity to shoot Bluejuice just the week before when they performed as support for Butterfingers ...

Hollie Smith's able hands on the keyboard at The Vanguard in Newtown My mate Duncan and his brother Angus were heading along to see New Zealand's legendary jazz singer Hollie Smith, so I checked FasterLouder to see if I could cover it for them. Luckily I was given the spot (although my name mysteriously wasn't on the door list, but with camera in hand and an email to and from the EMI representative I was deemed trustworthy enough for the venue to let me in to shoot. Mysteriously another couple of fellow Sydney flickrers were present and snapped me in action ...

Kora at the Gaelic Club In addition to the Bimbadgen Blues Festival and moving back to Sydney I also spent the night at the Gaelic Club in Surry Hills shooting New Zealand band Kora, with support from Budspells.
