Silencing Dissent... fly away? (image: Michael Leunig, The Age) This week The Sydney Morning Herald has run an article commenting on the Australian Federal Government's claimed Aid Budget and the creative accounting being employed to whitewash our minimal assistance through aid despite the massive income streams we currently get (of course, this is completely due to the Federal Government's single handling of the international economy, in addition to the Australian one). The Spirit of Australia General | (2)
The Qantas chairwoman, Margaret Jackson, is a shining example of the modern "Spirit of Australia". Unapologetic, self-serving, and only acts decently when forced.Paul Clarke Kensington I could not have summed up the state of the nation any more eloquently. Thank you Paul Clarke. I only wish things would change. Also, the daily cartoon at the Herald is a classic poke at the federal government's change of name for the new Industrial Relations policy (in spite of it remaining on the statute books as "Work Choices"). Apparently the policy itself isn't bad, it's just the public perception of it is horrid. As is said ...

Family First sells out on families - VSU Passed General | (6)
The Australian party Family First has sold out on its constituents by voting for the VSU legislation in its entirety. I'll have a longer rant on this shortly but two things are clear: Family First doesn't believe that childcare facilities, free legal advice, medical assistance etc is needed by families with parents or children who are students The other Queensland National Senators have sold out their constituents (as have all small l Liberals and other National senators).
